November 1947-July 1949: War in the British Mandate of Palestine led to the flight of over 720,000 Palestinians, according to the UN. Non-UN estimates for the number of refugees displaced in 1948 range from 400,000 to almost one million.
1967: War broke out between Israel and Egypt, Syria and Jordan. As a result of the conflict, an additional 500.000 Palestinians became displaced.
Resolution 212 of the UN General Assembly, on 19 November 1948 on assistance to Palestinian refugees, believes that "the problem of relief of Palestine refugees [...] is very urgent in nature [... ] Necessary relief measures must be determined and provide for its implementation, must immediately choose between saving many thousands of people or let them die. "
During these 62 years the Palestinian refugee population has come to constitute the population group that has remained longer in exile, aproximately one third of the refugees and refugees in the world.
At present, the number of refugee population, far from diminishing, has increased considerably, the records of the UNRWA (UN agency for Palestinian refugee population) have 4,671,811 people.

The population under occupation is the holder of certain rights. Under Article 47 (inviolability of rights) of the Fourth Geneva Convention "does not deprive the protected persons in occupied territory, under any circumstances or in any way, the benefits of this Convention."
Today, forced displacement continues as a result of the Apartheid system and the progress of the illegal occupation by the Israeli state.
